About the organisation:

The organization focuses mostly on the following areas: Agriculture, Environment and Community Health/Livelihood.
It started since 2002 and came into existence as a result of the founder’s interest in conservation of natural resources which include land, soil, water, forest  concern for community livelihood.

The three focus areas are:

Agricultural production:

Agricultural production has been one of the main sources of livelihood for a large population of people living in the tropical regions in the world.
There is need to develop and promote sustainable agricultural practices to ensure food security, income generation and enhance living condition of the majority of people depending on Agricultural production for sustenance.

Environment
A safe environment is needed for man’s continuous existence on earth. The environment and its resources need to  be protected or conserved for agricultural production, forests, water and their resources must be protected.

Community Health/Livelihood
The organization also gives attention (or contributes) to solving some issues affecting our society such as HIV/AIDS, Poor Hygiene and Sanitation, Gender disparities and Children issues.

OUR MISION:

Sustainable Agricultural practices and conservation of environmental resources for improved community livelihood.


OUR OBJECTIVES:

  • Promoting researches that will lead to conservation of natural resources.
  • Educate rural communities, farmers, and the general public on Environmental, Economic, Social, ecological and cultural needs for conservation of natural resources and the basic skills and measures for conserving them.
  • Developing pilot projects with farmers and rural communities that will help in the conservation of natural resources e g. Tree planting projects, agro-forestry, soil management, especially in agricultural degraded areas, and community forest conservation.
  • Developing economic activities (Projects) with farmers and rural communities that will help improve their standard of living e.g. bee keeping, snail rearing etc.
  • Promote community health by encouraging good health practices (sanitation,    hygiene etc)
  • Contribute towards solving some issues in rural communities, related to      HIV/AIDS, Gender issues ,water resources, and children health.
  • Identify and promote adoption of some valuable technologies with respect to agricultural production and conservation of natural resources.
  • Encourage ecological Investment.

WOCAT is a global body whose mission is to support innovation and decision-making processes in sustainable land management, particularly in connection with soil and water conservation (SWC). This is done by:

  • connecting stakeholders,
  • analysing and synthesising experiences and setting directions,
  • enhancing capacity knowledge,
  • developing and applying standardized tools for documenting, monitoring, evaluating, sharing and using knowledge

The collaboration is in the area of documenting existing soil water conservation Approaches and Technologies practiced in Nigeria.
